On March 12, 1912, Juliette Gordon Low founded Girl Scouts of the USA. The celebration of our 100th anniversary will officially kick off this fall so come join Girl Scouts as we celebrate our birthday and make plans for the second century of Girl Scouting in the United States.

Cajun Country Corn Maze celebrating Girl Scout’s 100th anniversary

Pack up the family and join us at Cajun Country Corn Maze where we will be celebrating Girl Scout’s 100th anniversary from opening day on September 24 through the weekend after Thanksgiving. Navigate your way through the giant maze design featuring Girl Scout’s 100th anniversary logo, learn about Girl Scout’s 100 year history, and participate in activities to help you earn a patch. Special Girl Scout activities are planned for Saturday, November 5, with a service project to benefit the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and its member agencies, so bring the whole family and be a part of our 100th anniversary kick-off! Cajun Country Corn Maze will donate $1 to the council for every Maze attendee for the entire weekend, so bring the whole family and be a part of our 100th anniversary kick-off!

 Who: For Girl Scout Daisies – Ambassadors and their families. Also open to the public.
When: Saturday, November 5, 2011

Time: 9 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Where: Cajun Country Corn Maze, Hwy 16, Pine Grove, LA. The maze is located one mile east of 42360 (Napa Auto) in Pine Grove, and five miles west of 35999 (Bear Creek Western Store) in Montpelier, La.

Capacity: No minimum or maximum

Cost: Participants 12 and older: $8 + one non-perishable food item. Participants ages 4-11: $6 + one non-perishable food item. Ages 3 and under are free. All maze participants must bring a non-perishable food item to receive the special Girl Scout admission rate.

Registration:  Registration is not required for this event, but it is suggested that you call Vicki at Cajun Country Corn Maze to reserve space for your group if you are going to the maze during any other time the maze is open.

Notes: All Girl Scouts and Troop Leaders will receive a Maze Patch complements of the Cajun Country Corn Maze. Girl Scout T-shirts or uniforms are encouraged. Food, beverages, and snacks are available for purchase, but families/troops may bring a picnic lunch and beverages. A large pavilion and picnic tables are available. Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary Art Contest and Exhibition

Girl Scouts Louisiana East, in partnership with the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, is holding a 100th Anniversary Art Contest for Girl Scouts, ages 5 to 17. Share artistically what it means to be a Girl Scout today, and/or reflecting 100 years of Girl Scouting, and your artwork could be exhibited at the Ogden Museum January 5, 2012!

Theme: Artwork should represent what it means to you to be a Girl Scout today and/or reflecting 100 years of Girl Scouting.

Judging: Winners will be chosen in three categories: ages 5-8, 9-12, and 13-17. From these, one overall “best of show” will be selected. The winners will be chosen by a national panel of artists, educators, and others.

Exhibition, Reception, and Awards

The opening to display the top 10 winners in each category and the overall winner’s art will be held at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.

When: Thursday, January 5, 2012

Time: 6 – 8 p.m.

Cost: Free

Notes: This event is open to the public. Entertainment and a cash bar will be provided by the museum. Certificates will be awarded to all artists, whose work is displayed. Additionally, ten artworks will be framed and hung in both council offices, as well as, being displayed at the 100th Anniversary Girl Scout Louisiana East Extravaganza on March 17, 2012 in Gonzales.

Finalist

Congratulations to our 100th Anniversary Art Contest Finalist. In the 5 – 8 age category, finalist include Grace B., Abby K., Vivian B., Sydney O., Kayla L., Sidney H., Olivia C., Ava F., Gabrielle F., and Kate G.

Finalist in the 9 – 12 age category include Maddie P., Emma B., Elise L., Marley A., Marigny L., Lucy K., Mary P., Kayley H., Keylee W., and Grace W.

One finalist, Cora B., from the 13 – 17 age category was selected.


Champagne & S’mores - this event has been cancelled.

Girl Scout volunteers, alumnae, and friends of Girl Scouting are invited to attend Girl Scout Louisiana East’s Champagne & S'mores cocktail party.

When: Saturday, January 14, 2012

Where: Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center.


Our Girls, Our Future Spring Luncheon

Girl Scout volunteers, alumnae, and friends of Girl Scouting are invited to attend Girl Scout Louisiana East’s spring fundraising luncheon.

When: Thursday, March 15, 2012

Time:  12 to 1 p.m. with meet and greet at 11:30 a.m.

Where: Baton Rouge

Cost: Luncheon is free, with a suggested minimum $50 donation.

Girl Scout Centennial Extravaganza

Girl Scout Daisies – Ambassadors and their Families. Also open to the public.

Join the council for its largest and most exciting event ever! Girls and their families will enjoy a carnival of rides, games, and other hands-on activities as we celebrate our 100th anniversary! Learn about Girl Scouting across the years, with interactive exhibits, skits, and demonstrations showcasing Girl Scouting and its achievements from the birth of Girl Scouting in 1912 to present day! Receive a passport to fun as you experience what the international sisterhood of Girl Scouting and its membership in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) is all about! Girls will have a blast as they enjoy World Thinking Day activities including a parade of flags! Girl Scouting is only turning 100 once, so don’t miss the Party of the Century!


100 years of Girl Scouting

Volunteers from the council’s four regions are developing the interactive historic exhibits (Region 1: 1912-1937, Region 2: 1938- 1963, Region 3: 1964-1989, Region 4: 1990-2012).

World Thinking Day
Service Units will be creating and representing approximately 20-25 countries to include a diisplay, decorations, activities etc.

When: Saturday, March 17, 2012
Time: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Carnival hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Times are still tentative and subject to change)
Where: Lamar Dixon Expo Center, Gonzales, LA
Fee: Tickets are approximately $8 per person for the Extravaganza if bought in advance, $10 per person at the door. Carnival riding bracelet for unlimited riding will cost a separate fee of about $7 per person, in advance or at the door. Further discounts are available for troops or service unit members involved in a presentation related to the 100 Years of Girl
Scouting and/or World Thinking Day. Prices are tentative and subject to change.

Painting with a Purpose

Corks and Canvas and Painting with a Twist have teamed up for a night of Painting with a Purpose to celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouting. Fifty percent of the proceeds will be donated to our council.

Who: This event is open to the public. Children, under 21, are invited, but must be accompanied by a parent.
