Catch the Camp Spirit!

A magical world of adventure awaits you at our 2013 Summer Resident Camp. Girl Scouts Louisiana East Resident Camp is a unique place full of laughter, friendships, new discoveries, and memories for a lifetime. As a camper you will participate in fun activities that vary based on your session selection. Activities may include canoeing, kayaking, swimming, horseback riding, building a raft, building a fire, Geocaching, cooking in a box, investigating a mystery, taking pictures or taking a moonlit scavenger hunt.

As a council, our goal at camp is to provide an environment for girls to flourish by gaining new skills, building a sense of independence, actively engaging in camp community life, and appreciating the environment. She will return from camp knowing she is a capable, confident, strong Girl Scout. Chances are she will also be talking about the new skills she developed, the new friends she made AND singing a lot of new silly songs on the ride home.

The camp open house will provide an opportunity for the girl(s) and her parents/guardians to explore camp, visit the camp sites, and receive information before camp begins. Please remember that exploring camp means Walking. Wear comfortable closed toed shoes and casual clothing. This is your chance to explore camp. No need to register, come on visit us.

Kick off your summer with a week at Camp Covington. Explorers is designed for new campers who want to spend their first week at a sleep-away camp. Campers will try a bit of everything at Camp Covington including exploring the creek, singing, hiking, playing games, creating arts and crafts, and making lots of new friends!

LOVE, HUG & PAINT

Whoever heard of painting a horse? We have! And paint a horse is just what you will do at this session. Join us for a quick sample of all fun camp activities: crafts, nature, campfire, songs and more. Make new friends and explore camp in this 4 day session.

S'MORES

Want to try out summer camp? Not quite ready to spend a whole week at camp? This session is for YOU! In this camp-tastic session you will discover all that camp has to offer. Take a dip in the pool, hike on a trail, make some nifty arts and crafts and, of course, make S'MORES! Two sessions a week: Session A starts on Sunday, leave Tuesday. Session B starts on Wednesday, leave Friday.

Girls Enter the 4th, 5th, & 6th Grade

 

ART-RAGEOUS

Let your inner artist break free during this session that is filled with art projects—make metal jewelry, learn drawing tips, create your own tie-dyed work of art, and explore other ways tolet your creativity show. You will also get a chance to cool off in the pool, take a canoe ride on the lake, and sing songs around the campfire.

CWP GIRLS

Experience the peaceful paradise of Camp Whispering Pines. Learn some basic yoga poses and relax at camp by lounging by the pool. You will also make your own bath products, paint your nails, and make face masks while enjoying the other fun activities at camp. Ready to go and see and do it all!

GALLOPING GOURMETS

From saddles to sauce pans, this program has it all! Learn to ride a horse and get creative with outdoor cooking, too. Learn to groom, saddle and the basics of horseback riding before hitting the trail to practice your new skills. When you aren't hanging out at the barn, it's time to cook up some fun! Learn new outdoor cooking techniques, and make new recipes for gourmet treats over the fire!

GIDDY-UP

Here is your chance to see if hanging out with Camp Marydale's horses is for you! In this short session, you will learn the basics of riding and grooming horses. PICTURE THAT!

Budding photographers come to Marydale and learn to use your new camera (included in session price). Meet a professional photographer and get tips on how to take fantastic pictures. PIRATE'S LIFE FOR ME!

Arrrr Mateys! Try your hand at boating, walking the plank and swash buckling for the full pirate training. Challenge other boats to water fights and see if you can outmaneuver your buddies on the water. By the end of the week, you will have designed, built and launched a pirate’s raft.

Brush off your boots! It's time to grab the reins and hang on tight! In this camp session you will learn the basics of horsemanship. Groom, saddle and study the essential skills of walking, trotting and trail riding on your horse! BOOTS AND BRIDLES

Love to ride? Don't have much experience? Come up to Marydale for a week skill building and trail riding. You will have a chance improve on your riding skills, and learn some new ones. When you aren't galloping around, enjoy archery, swimming, and the challenge course.

ON THE GO

Want to spend part of your summer vacation at camp, but want to play tourist? Here's your chance! Spend your days visiting the Port Hudson Battlefield site, try not to scare yourself silly at the Myrtles Plantation, take a pack out lunch and hike Tunica Hills and enjoy the ole' time feel of local plantations and downtown St. Francisville. In the afternoon, enjoy swimming, crafts and all the other wonders at Marydale.

SAIL AND SOAR

The wind will carry you across the lake and over the treetops. Come soar on the zipline and learn a bit about boating. Spend a week under the beautiful skies of CWP, learn that sailing is more than simply being pushed and pulled by the wind. For most people, sailing is meeting new friends, enjoying nature's beauty and challenge, and sharing a special fellowship with all boaters. In this session, campers will learn all about boating safety, rigging the wind, how a sail works, tacking, jibbing, capsize recoveries, steering, anchoring, and more. Campers will need to be comfortable in the water and be able to tread water for five minutes.

TRAILS, TALES, AND TENTS

Forge your own trail at camp this week. You and other trailblazers will learn about orienteering, living on the trail, and backpacking. One night your unit will pack up and venture out to find your way to your own campsite-where you will set up tents to sleep out in the wild, check out the great stars, enjoy S'mores, and go back with some great tales to tell!

WATER WONDERFUL!

GUARD START

This American Red Cross program is available to youth, ages 11 - 15 years old, who have the desire to learn about the responsibilities and duties of a lifeguard. This program will help build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills to become a future lifeguard. You will receive instruction in prevention, fitness, response, leadership, professionalism and swimming skill development.

SPACE CAMP ADVENTURE

Ever want to play on the moon or drive the space shuttle? Come with us
and touch the stars in a once in a lifetime trip to Space Camp. This will be a 4 day/3 night trip from Hammond to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. For three days, you will participate in astronaut training, a space shuttle mission, learn about space history, build and launch your own rocket much, much more. The sky's not the limit in this great experience! Register early to secure your space.

TRAIL BLAZERS – 4 day horse campout – Advance Skills

Saddle up Cowgirls! Trail Blazers is the perfect short session for those girls who LOVE to trail ride! As a special treat for this outfit, Trail Blazers will take their gear out for a sleepover trail ride, cook over a fire and build outdoor living, horsemanship, and horseback riding skills. This session is short, so campers MUST be intermediate to advanced riders to participate in all portions of Trail Blazers.

SENIOR AIDE

Do you love to help teach arts and crafts or songs and games to younger girls? Spend the week at the camp working with the counselors as an aide. Share your love of camp with the next generation of campers. Senior Aides enjoy additional responsibility and privileges, including swim time.

Have you always dreamed of being a summer camp staff member? Welcome to the first step... the CIT program! This session gives girls a chance to start developing skills as future camp counselors. If you have already completed Counselor In Training I, you will learn to work with staff and campers of all backgrounds and ages, hone your skills as a facilitator at program areas, and get certified in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR. At the end of your training, you will be placed with a unit as a junior staff member to put all your training and knowledge into practice.

Once you have completed Wrangler in Training 1, you are eligible for Wrangler in Training II. Come spend 10 days teaching younger girls how to care for and ride horses. Share your love with our horses with other girls to foster their own special connection with the herd.
