Camp Whispering Pines
Nestled in a unique longleaf pine forest, Camp Whispering Pines is a 600-acre camp located in Independence, north of Hammond. Unofficially referred to as our water camp, Camp Whispering Pines’ water activities include canoeing and kayaking, and enjoying the camp’s large water slide located in Timber Lake (slide: April 1-Oct. 1). Girl Scouts may also enjoy swimming in the camp’s new Trefoil-shaped pool with ADA-lift. Other amenities include archery, hiking the camp’s many nature trails, climbing the rock wall, and challenging themselves on the high ropes course with a zip line.
Camp Whispering Pines offers progressive camping experiences for troops. There are: day use areas; platform tent units; cabin units; a winterized troop house; semi-primitive and primitive areas. The camp is open all year to Girl Scouts and outside user groups. Resident camp is typically held during June & July.
