Girl Scout Legislative Day
For girls, grades 6 to 12
Join Girl Scouts from across the state of Louisiana at the State Capitol for a day of citizen engagement and advocacy. This event is a joint effort of Girl Scouts Louisiana East and our sister council, Girl Scouts of Louisiana – Pines to the Gulf. Girls will participate in activities throughout the day, helping them to earn the Finding Common Ground or an age equivalent Legacy: Citizen Badge. Adults are welcome to stay for the event, but space is limited.

When: Tuesday, June 4, 2019
Time: 9 a.m. Arrive and set up display tables in Capitol rotunda, get day’s agenda and meet other girls from around the state
10 – 10:30 a.m. Tour the State Capitol
10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Talk with one or more of our female legislators, a female lobbyist, and depending on the session schedule, represent Girl Scouts as we get recognized on the floor of the House or Senate.
11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. We’ll walk two blocks to the Louisiana Office of Tourism for a Governmental Relations program, which includes a presentation from a representative from the Louisiana Center for Women in Government and Business, while we enjoy boxed lunches, supplied by capitol’s catering service.
1 – 2 p.m. Offer Girl Scout cookies to guests and legislators in the Capitol rotunda, greeting legislators, etc. Depending on when the House is in session, Girl Scouts may be recognized on the floor.
2 pm. Clean up!
Where: Louisiana State Capitol, 900 North Third Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70802 (drop off and pick up in Rotunda)
Fee: $5 per girl, which includes Badge and lunch. $8 for adults for lunch.
Capacity: Maximum 15 girls
Registration Instructions: Register online via ebiz for girl and adults. Any adult staying will need to register and pay $8 to cover their boxed lunch.
