For all volunteer positions working directly with girls. This session will give adult volunteers who work directly with girls the tools to: explain practices to help manage a group of girls while providing a safe experience; understand the Promise and the Law; lay out a typical meeting; describe the importance of all of the components of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and utilize Journeys and The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting in all aspects of girl led, learning by doing, and cooperative learning. You will learn more ideas for helping girls plan and make decisions, tips for customizing journeys and badges to meet your girl’s Interest, plus fun ways for girls to reflect on their Girl Scout experiences.

Prerequisites:   1) Completion of GSUSA’s Girl Scouting 101 Online introduction to Girl Scouting.   2) Volunteer Orientation (face-to-face review of Volunteer Essentials).

Successful Leader Learning (Leadership Essentials)
For all volunteer positions working directly with girls.

Leadership Essentials provides you with the tools and techniques to provide the Girl Scout program in the troop setting. You will learn troop management including using the VTK for meeting plans, dive into the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and understand how to incorporate the Girl Scout processes into your troop. Required training for all volunteers serving on the leadership team. 

Prerequisites:

1) Completion of GSUSA’s Girl Scouting 101 Online introduction to Girl Scouting.

2) Volunteer Orientation - face-to-face orientation with a volunteer (Coach or Service Unit Administrator) or staff member (Membership Development Specialist), focusing on getting your new troop started. This session is scheduled by the volunteer or staff member once your registration and background check are completed. If you need orientation and have not been contacted, contact Customer Care at 1-800-644-7571 or use the Contact button on the top of the website.

Bring:  Volunteer Essentials and tech gadget of your choice to access internet (phone, tablet, laptop).  Optional: Journey Adult Guide(s) or The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting for your age level.
Fee: $10 with GS store coupon ($10) upon completion of course.

Darkness to Light® Stewards of Children™ Online Training

Required for at least ONE volunteer per troop and should be completed once every three (3) years.

A revolutionary sexual abuse prevention training program that educates adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program believes and teaches that child safety is an adult’s job. The program is designed for organizations that serve children and youth and offers training on the 7 Steps for Protecting Children from sexual abuse.

This training is not produced by Girl Scouts of the USA or GSLE.  It is required by all volunteers working with children by the State of Louisiana.

Volunteers should go the Darkness to Light website to complete the training.  There is a cost of $10 that must be paid via credit card.  Once finished, print a copy of their certificate and submit to the Community Administrator, Troop Support Specialist or directly to GSLE Headquarters or Regional Office.  The training can be done at your pace and on your schedule.  Fee is fully reimbursable from troop funds.
