Leadership Essentials

For all volunteer positions working directly with girls.

This session will give adult volunteers who work directly with girls the tools to: explain practices to help manage a group of girls while providing a safe experience; understand the Promise and the Law; lay out a typical meeting; describe the importance of all of the components of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and utilize Journeys and The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting in all aspects of girl ledlearning by doing, and cooperative learning.

You will learn more ideas for helping girls plan and make decisions, tips for customizing journeys and badges to meet your girl’s Interest, plus fun ways for girls to reflect on their Girl Scout experiences.

Prerequisites:
1) Completion of GSUSA’s Girl Scouting 101 Online introduction to Girl Scouting.
2) Volunteer Orientation (face-to-face review of Volunteer Essentials).

Bring: Volunteer Essentials
Fee: $10 which includes 1 Journey set of your choice upon completion of the course.

Girl Scouting 201/301
New volunteers should complete this session within 90 days of starting the troop/group meetings. Experienced volunteers should complete this course every three (3) years.

This is a face-to-face group session for reviewing the latest GSUSA program resources: Leadership Journeys and The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting and reinforcing all aspects of girl led, learning by doing, and cooperative learning into your troop/group’s experience. This course will focus on general program aspects for a portion of the class then split into grade-level specific groups for the remainder of the course. This is a great course to help you learn how to utilize the Girl Scout program resources more effectively.

Prerequisites:
1) Complete GSUSA’s Girl Scouting 101 Online introduction to Girl Scouting.
2) Complete Girl Scouts Louisiana East Orientation
3) Complete Leadership Essentials course

Fee: $5 which includes one (1) Badge Set of your choice upon completion of the course.
Capacity: Minimum 5/Maximum 25

Darkness to Light® Stewards of Children™

Volunteers should complete this course every three (3) years.

A revolutionary sexual abuse prevention training program that educates adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program believes and teaches that child safety is an adult’s job. The program is designed for organizations that serve children and youth and offers training on the 7 Steps for Protecting Children from sexual abuse.

Fee: $10 per person. Fee is fully reimbursable from troop funds.
Capacity:  Minimum 5/ Maximum 24

Darkness to Light ONLINE training!
Please be aware, the Darkness to Light training required for at least ONE volunteer per troop is available to be taken online! Volunteers can go the Darkness to Light website, pay $10 with a credit card, participate in the training, and print a copy of their certificate to be included in our volunteer files.  The training can be done at your pace and on your schedule.  Fee is fully reimbursable from troop funds.
