Girl Scouts Louisiana East is seeking adults to serve as robotic team coaches, as well as secure team meeting locations, so we may increase the number of First LEGO League teams across the council. All materials and competition expenses are covered by the council. All coaches are responsible for is facilitating the meetings according to their and the team's schedules, and guiding the team of 6 - 10 girls through the season. Coaches are needed now so they can begin recruiting and building their teams over the summer. The season begins in August with regional competitions held in November and a state competition in December.
No previous knowledge or experience with the Lego League is needed to be successful as a coach, only the desire and availability. The league provides a lot of material, tutorials, and workshops to assist the facilitation of the team. GSLE will also connect our new coaches with some of our seasoned team coaches who are experienced, gracious and helpful with what they can share. We will also work together to secure local scientists and engineers to attend meetings as needed in a mentor capacity to help motivate and inspire the girls in the ways of building, problem solving, and computer programming.
For more information about becoming a First Lego League coach, contact Kevin Shipp at 504-733-8220, ext. 2243 or firstname.lastname@example.org
