This year, you can find Girl Scout cookies nearby with just the touch of your finger. From February 24 through March 12, Girl Scouts Louisiana East urges customers to find cookie booths using the Cookie Finder App to satisfy their cookie craving. The Cookie Finder App is a mobile application, available on iOS or Android phone or mobile device, which allows one to search for cookie booths by using GPS or zip code. Customers may also go to www.girlscoutcookies.org to find nearby booth locations.
Last year, local Girl Scouts rocked traditional door-to-door and digital sales, proving their sales ability once again, by selling over 1 million boxes of cookies during the sale! All proceeds remain locally, providing funds for troop activities with the remainder helping the council to maintain properties, train and recruit volunteers, and support council initiatives.
In conjunction with 2017 being the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts selling cookies, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) has created additional challenges, such as a #gsCookieBoss Instagram Challenge and Cookie Troop 100, where Girl Scouts and their troops can participate to earn prizes and monetary awards to help fund their community service projects. The National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend, held February 24-26, offer girls from Girl Scouts Louisiana East a chance to show off their entrepreneurial skills by participating in booth sales throughout southeast Louisiana.
“The Girl Scout Cookie Program is about more than just cookies,” said Jackie Alexander, CEO of Girl Scouts Louisiana East. “It teaches girls integral business skills and instills a lifelong sense of civic responsibility that creates leaders. At Girl Scouts Louisiana East, so many amazing girls within our ranks are doing positive, impactful things with their cookie earnings. With our celebration of National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend, we’re excited to spotlight these accomplished young women and support their efforts to meet their cookie-selling goals for the year!”
The local sale began in mid-January, and will finish up on March 12, which is also the 105th anniversary of the Girl Scout organization. Nine cookie varieties are currently for sale, including the newest cookie, a Girl Scout S’mores cookie, inspired by S’mores enjoyed around a campfire. Other cookies include: Thin Mint, Shortbread, Peanut Butter Patties, Caramel deLites, Lemonades, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Thanks-A-Lot, and Trios. Cookies are $4 per box, upon delivery, with the gluten-free cookie, Trios, at $5.
