Following last year's historic floods, sister Girl Scouts from around the country sent donations to Girl Scouts in Denham Springs, Walker, Watson, as well as Baton Rouge. In an effort to "pay forward" that kindness, Girl Scout Junior Aubrey of Troop 10437 in Walker (whose own home received 4 ft of water) took action by informing others in the Livingston Parish Girl Scout community about major flooding this summer in the small town of Pearl City, IL.
After contacting a troop in that town, Aubrey organized a school supply drive to send to students from affected families. Using a video posted on social media and emails to leaders to broadcast the need, Aubrey requested that items be brought to the first Girl Scout leader meeting held last week. From there she sorted and organized the donated items, which she then packaged and sent to Pearl City, which should arrive just in time for the beginning of school.
Well-done to this innovator, for her problem-solving and resourcefulness in seeing a need and taking action! That's Leadership the Girl Scout way!
