There is only one way to prepare a girl for the best summer ever and it starts with Girl Scout Resident Camp. Girl Scouts Louisiana East (GSLE) offers girls, in grades 1-12, a variety of resident camp sessions at two camps to live their best life this summer.

“Girl Scout Resident Camp life is like no other because we design our sessions to fit what girls love, combine it with camp activities, and allow girls to take the lead in their sessions,” said Lauren Vance, Director, Equestrian, Outdoor Program and Resident Camp. “Campers leave with new skills, memories and friends. That’s what keeps them coming back every summer.”

Girl Scout Resident Camp runs from June 2 to July 7 at Camp Marydale in St. Francisville and Camp Whispering Pines in Independence. Two day to two-week sessions range from $100-$410, breakfast, lunch and dinner included. All girls, including non-Girl Scouts, are welcome.

Activities vary per session and age level, but may include swimming, boating, outdoor cooking, archery, high or low ropes, rock climbing, hiking, horseback riding, and more. All GSLE properties and programs are accredited by the American Camp Association.

This year, Girl Scouts is excited to introduce the H20 Extreme summer session, held June 9-14 and June 23-28, at Camp Whispering Pines, for girl grades 4-5, and The Mane Event summer session at Camp Marydale, held June 23- July 3, for girls grades 6-8. The H20 Extreme session offers a week of water fun, such as swimming, kayaking, canoeing, splashing on the lake waterslide, enjoying a floating lunch, designing a raft and canoeing by moonlight. Campers will earn the Staying Fit Badge. Girls who register for The Mane Event will experience a two-week session of mastering equestrian basics, such as grooming and saddling, plus equine first aid for more advanced girls. This horse care and riding summer session is perfect for girls who love or want to learn more about horses. Campers will earn the Animal Helper’s Badge.

Learn more about Girl Scout Resident Camp at Open House

GSLE invites all girls and caregivers to learn more about resident camp at its open houses on Sunday, March 10 and Sunday, March 31 at Camp Marydale in St. Francisville and Sunday, March 24 and Sunday, April 14 at Camp Whispering Pines in Independence. All camp open houses are from 2 to 4 p.m. and no preregistration is needed.

The council’s resident camp open house allows girls and parents, or guardians, to explore the various camp units and programs. It also gives them the chance to meet resident staff to ask questions about camp.

“New campers and parents are more comfortable in their transition from home to camp when they see our camp grounds and get to know our counselors,” said Vance. “Once they hear about our diverse sessions for the summer and safety guidelines they, both girls and guardians, are reassured that they are ready for their first camp experience.”

Open house is not mandatory for new campers, however, it helps acquaint the parents as much as it does their girls.
