Girl's World Forum 2012

Special opportunity for Girl Scouts aged 14-18.
Girl Scouts Louisiana East will sponsor two delegates to the Girls’ World Forum 2012. This forum will be held in Chicago July 12-16, 2012 and is hosted by the Girl Scouts of the USA and World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. The delegates will be chaperoned by an adult staff member or Girl Scouts Louisiana East volunteer.
What is the Girls’ World Forum?
The Girls’ World Forum 2012 is the 3rd and final event in a series of forums. This Girls’ World Forum has the nickname GWF 2012. The series was created as part of GSUSA’s 100th anniversary celebrations and encourages connecting with girls from around the world to address worldwide issues.
The forums have and will engage girls from around the world in discussions addressing the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The UN set these Goals to encourage world citizens to develop and implement plans to eliminate poverty.
GWF2012 will address three of the Goals:
Goal 1: To End poverty and Hunger
Goal 3: to promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 7: to achieve the environmental sustainability.

What will happen at GWF 2012?
Girl participants will:
- Exchange with external partners.
- Develop advocacy, leadership and communication skills.
- Identify viable solutions to MDG issues and incorporate them into designs of personal action plans.
- Participate in local take action projects.
- Review and incorporate Member Organizations 2010 and 2011 Forum action plans.
- 100th Anniversary celebrations.
Who should apply?
Active Girl Scouts who will be between the ages of 14-18 at the time of the forum who are:
Interested in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
Willing to develop skills and networks to bring about change in their community and their country.
Willing to participate in pre-forum meetings.
Willing to share your experience with Girl Scouts Louisiana East and implement your action plan.
What costs are involved?
As a selected participant, you will be responsible for $200 of the event fee. The fee covers all room, board and program/activity costs. Girl Scouts Louisiana East will pay the remainder of the balance of your event fee and airfare from New Orleans to Chicago and all ground transportation once in Chicago. Event fee will be due on March 31, 2012. Financial assistance may be available on a case by case basis.
In addition to the event fee, you will also be responsible for your own spending money on the trip, including souvenirs.
How do I apply?
Complete application and submit your Girls’ World Forum by February 6, 2012 at 8 p.m. A digitally scanned and email copy of your application is preferred, however a mailed or hand delivered copy will be accepted. (Please maintain a copy of your application for your records.)
