Girl Scout Day Camp Camellia to hold open registration on March 15

Camellia CSIpatchNancy Drew, step aside.  Girl Scout Day Camp Camellia will be holding its own CSI-themed, summer day camp on May 26 – 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at John Slidell Park and Gym in Slidell. Open registration for the week-long camp is Saturday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at First Christian Church, 102 Christian Lane, in Slidell.

According to Cindy Schneida, day camp director for Camp Camellia, day camp is open to all girls entering kindergarten through graduating high school seniors, and there will also be a pee wee and boys unit for children of full time volunteer staff. The cost is $50 per camper ($65 for non-Girl Scouts which includes a $15 membership fee) with reduced rates for boys and younger children of full time camp volunteers. Girl Scout Cadettes and Seniors are encouraged to volunteer as Program Aides at a reduced rate.  Adult volunteers are also needed.

Activities for the junior detective campers include analyzing finger prints, decoding secret messages with invisible ink, and campers will also get to meet professionals who use clues and evidence to solve mysteries. Other activities include crafts, hiking, outdoor skills, water day, and the camp’s annual “dance party.”

Current Slidell and Pearl River area Girl Scouts and volunteers should register for camp through the current troop leader, and will be given priority if received prior to March 1.  Open registration is March 15, and everyone attending camp, include staff, pee wees, and boys must registered. Fees are payable upon registration, and only cash will be accepted (no refunds). For more information, please contact Schneida at 504-494-2031.
