It’s Girl Scout Cookie Season – a favorite time of year for many Girl Scouts – and one during which the Girl Scout organization is most visible. Unfortunately, it is also the time that special interest groups and those who seek to discredit Girl Scouts share misinformation about our organization and its mission. The mission of Girl Scouts Louisiana East is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. This is not a political mission, and Girl Scouts will not allow any individual or group to link our name to any political issue in order to advance an agenda, or to misuse our name or brand.
To be proactive and assist you during the Cookie Sale, the council created a Girl Scouts Truths flyer which addresses and shares the truth concerning the five most common misconceptions about Girl Scouts. This flyer is linked from www.gsle.org/about-us/who-we-are/stand/, or can be accessed here or by clicking the flyer image to the right. This flyer will be available at cookie delivery, but may also be requested now, by contacting anyone in either the membership or communications departments. It is intended for adults to have at booth sales, just in case it’s needed to distribute accurate information about the Girl Scouts.
It’s troubling that there are groups that would attempt to boycott the Cookie program as well as individuals who might harass girls during the sale, so we ask that you remain ever vigilant during booth sales. We are fortunate that we enjoy a significant amount of goodwill from the general public in southeast Louisiana, and the majority of cookie customers support the organization, as well as understand and appreciate the positive difference Girl Scouting makes in the lives of girls.
