Leadership Essentials

This session will give adult volunteers who work directly with girls the tools to: explain practices to help manage a group of girls while providing a safe experience; understand the Promise and the Law; lay out a typical meeting; describe the importance of all of the components of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and utilize Journeys and The Girls Guide to Girl Scouting in all aspects of girl led, learning by doing, and cooperative learning.

You will learn more ideas for helping girls plan and make decisions, tips for customizing journeys and badges to meet your girl's Interest, plus fun ways for girls to reflect on their Girl Scout experiences.

For all volunteer positions working directly with girls.

Prerequisites:

1) Completion of GSUSA's Girl Scouting 101 Online introduction to Girl Scouting.

2) Volunteer Orientation (face-to-face review of Volunteer Essentials).

Bring: Lunch or Snack, Volunteer Essentials and any one (of the three) Journeys Adult Guide and The Girls Guide to Girl Scouting for your age level.

NEW - a face-to-face group session for volunteers who work with younger Girl Scouts reviewing the latest GSUSA program resources: Leadership Journeys and The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting and reinforcing all aspects of girl led, learning by doing, and cooperative learning into your troop/group's experience.

New volunteers should complete this session within 90 days of starting the troop/group meetings. Experienced volunteers should complete this course every three (3) years.
