St. Mary Parish Girl Scouts to hold Kid's Day, August 20
AUGUST 2011
Girl Scouts in St. Mary Parish Service Unit 270 are hosting a Kid’s Day event, on Saturday, August 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Berwick Civic Center, 300 Patti Drive in Berwick. Free and open to the public, the St. Mary Kid’s Day is an opportunity for families to learn more about the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and register their daughter in a troop, while girls in kindergarten through 12th grade, enjoy games, prizes, and other fun, hands-on activities.
Just a few of the activities include a Bounce House, healthy-living activities and demonstrations including Zumba, with representatives from B.A.C.A. (Bikers Against Child Abuse), Kids in Motion (K.I.M.’s) Playhouse Discovery Museum, and My Heart’s Desire, among others. Girls will get the chance to talk to local firefighters and policemen, see the inside of a fire truck and a police vehicle, and so much more. The Bloodmobile will also be on site for blood donations.
The mission of Girl Scouts is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. In partnership with caring adult volunteers, girls develop leadership skills as they discover new interests, connect with others, and take action on issues that are important to them. Membership is $12 per year for girls and adults, making it a positive and affordable option for today’s busy families. Some favorite areas of interest for girls and adults include camping, travel, health and fitness, the arts, science and technology, cookie-selling, and much more.
The Girl Scout program levels are Girl Scout Daisies, kindergarten – 1st grade; Girl Scout Brownies, grades 2-3; Girl Scout Juniors, grades 4-5; Girl Scout Cadettes, grades 6-8; Girl Scout Seniors, grades 9-10; and Girl Scout Ambassadors, grades 11-12. For more information about registering your daughter in Girl Scouts or becoming a Girl Scout volunteer in St. Mary Parish, contact Membership Executive Heather Deroche at 985-856-2370, or email her at hderoche@gsle.org.
