Tennis Anyone?
Girl Scouts and United States Tennis Association partner for one-day workshops this summer

APRIL 2012

Girls, ages 6 to 14, are invited to discover the world of tennis by participating in Tennis Anyone?, Girl Scouts Louisiana East’s newest workshop, in partnership with the United States Tennis Association, being held various Saturdays in June and July, in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Slidell, Luling, and Thibodaux.

Professional instructors from the United States Tennis Association have planned a day of fast paced action as they teach girls the fundamentals of the game, demonstrating how to improve the backhand swing, or just hit it over the net.  This non-competitive workshop is ideal for learning the game or improving your game and having a day of fun on the courts.

Three-hour workshops will be held Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. as well as Saturday, July 21, same time, at Independence Park Tennis Center, 750 Independence Blvd., Baton Rouge; Saturday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Atkinson-Stern Tennis Center, 4025 South Saratoga Street, New Orleans; Saturday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Thibodaux Civic Center Tennis Courts, 310 N. Canal Blvd., Thibodaux; Saturday, June 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cross Gates Family Fitness, 200 North Military Road, Slidell; and Saturday, June 30, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Grand Ridge Golf Club, 500 Willowdale Blvd., Luling.

The program fee is $7 per girl, and includes use of all needed equipment and free USTA memberships to girls 10 & under. Information regarding Jr. Team Tennis team participation opportunities will also be available. Girls should bring their own water supply and snacks.  Registration opens April 30, and closes June 1, or when maximum capacity is reached. Adults will not participate in the workshop, but may stay and observe during the event.
