Registrations being accepted for Girl Scout Day Camp “Down in Da Parish”
Girl Scout Day Camp “Down in Da Parish” has begun accepting registrations for its summer day camp program, as well as its overnight camp. Day camp is open to all girls currently in kindergarten through 8th grade, and there will also be a pee wee for children of full time volunteer staff. Day camp first week session dates are July 21-25, second week dates are July 28-August 1, with an overnight camp for girls entering 4-12th grade July 28-August 1, at First Baptist Church at 305 E. St. Bernard Highway, Chalmette, Second Floor.
The Theme for this year’s day camp is “Think Green,” during the first week, and “Summer Fun” during the second week. Activities include camping skills, arts and crafts, songs, games, water day, and more. The fee through June 1 is $55 per camper ($70 for non Girl Scouts which includes a $15 membership fee) for Week 1, $70 for Week 2, and both include a camp T-shirt. There are reduced rates for program aides (8th-12th grade Girl Scouts volunteering at camp) and children of full time volunteers only. There is an additional $4 fee for lunch daily. Overnight camp fees are $165, now through June 1.
Volunteers are needed since the St. Bernard day camp is staffed entirely by volunteers. No experience is necessary; volunteers will receive the training and support they need. Volunteer girls in 8th through 12th grade are also needed, and will earn community service hours.
For information on how to register or to volunteer, please contact Day Camp Director Tanya Palazzalo at (504) 343-2934.
