Training

Welcome to Girl Scout Leadership Training!

Congratulations on making a great decision to become a Girl Scout volunteer. For those of you continuing your involvement with our organization, thank you! Volunteers are the heart of Girl Scouting, and without leaders, Girl Scouts would not be able to help girls develop into tomorrow's leaders.

Training Schedule posted!

The 2008-2009 Training Course Schedule/Calendar is posted! Register today!

Depending on your volunteer position you may be required to be trained in certain areas of Girl Scout procedure, and general knowledge. Learning and developing new skills and insights are all part of the Girl Scout program, and not just for girls! Well-trained volunteers have the skills and ability to offer the highest quality programming for girls while staying safe and having fun at the same time.

What training is required?

The Girl Scouts Louisiana East Board of Directors requires all volunteers with primary responsibility for working with girls be trained for the position they will assume or have assumed.

Training is divided into two categories: Basic and Enrichment. Basic Training includes a course on the new Girl Scout Leadership Experience with its three keys to leadership (which replace the four program goals). Enrichment classes go beyond the basics and help enhance the leader's interaction with the girls.

Have you completed your volunteer orientation?

Volunteers who work directly with girls must complete online orientation provided by Girl Scouts of the USA at http://training.girlscouts.org, password: discover (must be lower case), along with support training that covers council policies and procedures provided by a Service Unit team member, Membership Executive, or designated person, prior to attending a training course.

For Troop and Group Leaders

Each Girl Scout troop/group must have at least one registered and trained adult who assumes primary responsibility for that troop. Required training for those leading a troop following the orientation and support training mentioned above, consists of the new Girl Scout Leadership Experience training.

New Leader Orientation & Support Training

The New Leader Support Training is conducted with your Service Unit Chair, Membership Executive or an appointed volunteer and must be attended prior to starting a troop. Some of the topics covered include:

Other questions about basic training:

Do I have to be trained if I am not a troop leader but want to work with girls?

It is the policy of Girl Scouts Louisiana East that all volunteers with primary responsibility for working with girls be trained for the position they will assume or have assumed.

If I am an experienced leader changing age levels do I need training?

Yes, with the launch of the new Girl Scout Leadership Experience, you will want to take this course within 30 – 60 days of your first meeting with the girls at the new age level.
