Aquatic Training Courses
American Red Cross Lifeguarding
Participants passing all course materials will have a Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification. Bunks are available in the infirmary for those who would like the stay at camp, although food must be provided by those staying overnight.
For: Registered Girl Scout adults and girls age 15 and older.
Prerequisites: Must be at least 15 years of age by the last day of the course attended.
Attend all training sessions.
Must successfully complete a pre-course screening during Thursday morning's session which includes the following:
- Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes: 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing propellant kick 100 yards breaststroke; 100 yards of either front crawl using rhythmic breathing, or breaststroke or a combination of both
- Swim 20 yards (front crawl or breast stroke), surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, and return with it to the surface, and swim back 20 yards. This is a timed event.
- Perform all required skills with 100% accuracy. Pass 3 written tests with a score of at least 80% on each
Fee: $180, includes books, rescue mask, whistle, t-shirt and American Red Cross course fees. Food is not provided by the council.

American Red Cross Small Craft Safety
Perfect your canoeing skills while learning rescue and teaching skills. This three-year certification allows you to oversee canoeing activities without the need for a lifeguard.
For: Registered Girl Scout adults and girls age 15 and older.
Prerequisite: Intermediate canoeing skills.
Bring: Swimsuit and clothes to swim in, water shoes, sheets and sleeping bag, towel, toiletries, and Friday night dinner.
Fee: $35
Note: Prior to attending the course, participants will receive a packet in the mail containing an assignment to complete before arrival.
Capacity: Minimum 8 Maximum 15
