What is Girl Scouting?
Girl Scout Louisiana East's statement regarding Planned Parenthood
Approved by GSLE April 2008, added to website April 2010
We wish to assure parents, volunteers, community partners, and all the friends of Girl Scouting, that Girl Scouts Louisiana East does not, nor will it, collaborate with Planned Parenthood because we believe issues related to human sexuality and reproductive health are best left to families to discuss with their daughters.
Each Girl Scout in our council learns to live by the Girl Scout Promise and Law, committing herself to the service of God, country, and others. The Girl Scout organization does not provide support to Planned Parenthood, nor do we know of any national collaboration or relationship with that organization. The local council is interdependent from Girl Scouts of the USA who recognizes each council’s autonomy and the importance of understanding each community’s climate, and doing what is in the best interest of that council’s girls.
We thank you for your past support of Girl Scouting when Girl Scouts Louisiana East was two councils – Girl Scouts Audubon Council and Girl Scout Council of Southeast Louisiana, and we ask for continued support of our organization that has helped shape the lives of more than 50 million women. Girl Scouts in our council remain committed to building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
