Nearly 110 years ago, trailblazer Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts to establish an organization dedicated to empowering young women as they embark on a journey filled with self-discovery, skill building, and friendship. Girl Scouts Louisiana East continues Juliette’s legacy today by providing innovative programming opportunities designed to support girls as they develop into responsible and caring citizens.
Each year, Girl Scouts Louisiana East, holds the Juliette Gordon Low Leadership Luncheon to honor community leaders, organizations, and businesses—who, like Juliette—strive to make a lasting impact and inspire others to do the same.
“The 2021 Juliette Gordon Low Leadership Luncheon honorees play a vital role in our region by serving as exemplary leaders and fostering a healthy and inclusive environment for girls and women to grow as leaders themselves, take on challenges, and make a difference in their respective communities,” says Dr. Rebecca Pennington, Chief Executive Office of Girl Scouts Louisiana East. “We are tremendously grateful for the participation of our Keynote Speaker, Gayle Benson, an experienced leader, champion for New Orleans and Louisiana, and a true role model for the girls and women of our state.”
Gayle Benson, Owner of the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans, shares, “It is my great privilege to serve as the Keynote Speaker for the Girl Scouts Louisiana East Juliette Gordon Low Leadership Luncheon. As a past Woman of Distinction honoree, the Girl Scouts organization has been near and dear to my heart for many years, and I am honored to continue to support their mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make our community a better place. Girl Scouts are big thinkers, groundbreakers, and role models. They are accomplished women of determination, purpose, and compassion—traits I greatly admire. It's organizations like the Girl Scouts that enable girls to find—and become—leaders in their communities, and I am humbled to join them at this important event."
The 2021 honorees join past award recipients: Dr. Jennifer Avegno, Kenneth P. Carter, Dr. L’Issa L. Gates, Marlin Gusman, Helena Moreno, Lt.
