Open to girls, grades K-12, adults

On September 14 and 15, 2024, all registered Girl Scouts and their families will have a chance to experience the outdoors together with FREE entrance to any Louisiana State Park! Louisiana Girl Scouts, you and your families are invited to this amazing opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and develop your outdoor skills. Louisiana State Parks are waiving the park entrance fee to all Girl Scouts and their families when the Girl Scout(s) are wearing her GS Uniform Sash or Vest on the day of the event. This will allow free admission for her as well as her family members. More information on activities and presentations will be added as they become available.

Please note there will be special activities at some parks, see information below:

  1. Audubon Historic Site,  St. Francisville
  • Rainee Dunham from the Feliciana Wildflower Project will give a presentation in the Audubon State Historic Site's museum. She will discuss native plants and the importance of planting them. Also, Monarch butterflies and other pollinators. Time: 9:15 am - 10:15 am on Saturday, September 14.
  • Brittni Beeson from the Louisiana Hiking Club (and a former Girl Scout Leader) will give a presentation on trial safety, packing a day pack and the principles of Leave No Trace. Time: 10:15 am- 11:15 am on Saturday, September 14.
  1. Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego
  • A Tulane Biologist to come out to lead a hike for girls on Saturday the 14th.  Please email kshipps@gsle.org for more information.
  1. Bogue Chitto State Park, Franklinton
  • You can schedule a horseback riding adventure on your own*. Check out Bogue Chitto Horse Rentals.  
  • GSLE is partnering with the Tubing In The Park to kayak in the park. Ask for directions whn you check in.  Time: 9:00 am- 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 14.
  • Dirk Doubet and Jack Reilley of the  Louisiana Hiking Club will lead a hike. This is a longer hike at 5 miles (loop), so it may not be good for the younger girls.  The hike is set for 9 am on Saturday, September 14. Please email tyoes@gsle.org for more information.
  • There will be a Dutch Oven Cooking Demonstration. It begins at 9 am and the tasting begins around noon on Saturday, September 14. Ask for directions when you check in.
  • Barry Pierce a Bird and Butterfly enthusiast will give a presentation on Saturday, September 14. Please email tyoes@gsle.org for more information.
  • The NORBA - Northshore Off-Road Bicycling Association -Public Forum will hold demonstrations on Saturday, September 14,10:30 am at the main trail head.
  • This state park also has a splash park, disc golf, and fishing options.
  1. Fairview-Riverside State Park, Madisonville
  • Gary Salathe of the Louisiana Iris Conservation Initiative (LICI) will provide a presentation in Pavilion 2. Time 9 am - 10 am on Saturday, September 14.
  • Adriane Bercegeay of the Youth Wetlands, 4-H Youth Development, LSU AgCenter will offer a session called Birds of a Feather - A life-size board game where youth get to experience the trials and tribulations of migrating waterfowl that travel from Canada to Louisiana. Time: 10:15 am - 11:15 am, on Saturday, September 14.
  • Mr. David Weiss, a nature film writer, editor and former producer for National Geographic will talk about his current film project. Ask for more info when you check in at the park.
  1. Fontainebleau State Park, Mandeville
  • Kari Spencer from the Louisiana Hiking Club Louisiana Hiking Club (and a former Girl Scout Leader) will give a presentation on hiking safety and take a hike of approximately 1 mile that includes a nature scavenger hunt on Saturday, September 14, 9 am park at the Visitor Center and meet at the Sugarmill Trail.
  • Girl Scouts can help with the Beachfront Cleanup from 7 am to 12 pm. See Fontainebleau's Facebook page for more information. Park at the Visitor Center.
  1. Port Hudson Historic Site, Jackson
  1. Tickfaw State Park, Springfield
  • Brad Lavigne, Tickfaw Curator will give a presentation at 2 pm. Ask for more info when you check in at the park.
