Over the course of history, Community Service has been an integral part of the Girl Scout Experience. ”Take Action to make the world a better place” is the third key to Leadership. The following are some organizations that may have community service opportunities for you or your troop. They are certainly not intended to be the only organizations for you to contact, and you are greatly encouraged to take action in your community in whatever way best suits your goals for making the world a better place.
Founded in 1960, The Blood Center serves as the lifesaving link between the donor and the patient. Blood is a vital medical component that cannot be manufactured. It is only through generous donors that blood is made available to patients in need.
Troop members have the opportunity to learn about The Blood Center and the important role blood donors play in the community. Blood Buddies earn a patch by recruiting two or more eligible family members or friends to donate blood. Blood Buddies are lifesavers.

Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana has been in partnership with the Girl Scouts for more than 50 years! “Girl Scout Good Turn Day” was originally called “Smile Week.” Each year Girl Scouts collected donations and delivered them to Goodwill Collection Centers/Stores. This year troops, groups and individuals will collect donations again and will deliver these goods at one of the listed Goodwill stores (found at www.goodwillno.org) on Goodwill Good Turn Day,usually held in March to coincide with International Women’s Day. Troops participating will receive a
patch from the store at the time of the donation. Please be sure to contact Sabrina to let her know which store your will be participating in and how many patches you will need.
