Open to girls, grades 6-12 (Cadettes, Senior, and Ambassadors)
6th-12 graders (for the 2026-2027 school year) can sign up to attend for the CSA summer day field trips. Participants will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the events.
On June 23rd we will meet at the Turtle Cove site to learn about the history, science, and human culture of the wetlands in the Lake Pontchartrain Basin. The centerpiece of the field trip is a pontoon boat ride down Pass Manchac, which is provided by a covered 40' x 12' commercial-grade pontoon touring boat.
Subject areas discussed through lecture and visual observation include natural history of the physical environment; environmental history (social, economic, and cultural aspects); impacts of cypress deforestation and ecosystem restoration; and physical and socioeconomic impacts of and solutions to wetland loss and coastal erosion. Groups may expect to see a variety of flora and fauna, including alligators, snakes, birds, mammals, fish, and invertebrates.
There will be a $5 registration fee for girls to attend the June 23 event, which secures your spot and includes the STEM Career Exploration badge. Adults need to register, though there is no fee for adults.
In order to give more space for girls for the tour, there is a limit
of 1 adult for an individual girl's registration. If more than one
girl attends from a specific troop, there is a limit to 2 adults to
register for that event. Please note--adult spots are
first come first serve.
